Data Collection Methods
- Focus groups with parents in Portland and Denver
- Interviews with community leaders
- Interviews with ECE and social service key players in Maine and Colorado
- Surveys of ECE providers and kindergarten teachers
The mixed methods and multiple data sources we employed, including parents, community leaders, service agency staff, ECE providers, and kindergarten teachers permitted us to contrast what immigrant parents told us about their needs and preferences for care with providers' understanding and insights about those perceptions and needs. We hope this triangulation of data will make our findings that much more useful to those who design and implement ECE programs and polices affecting this population, and for those working directly with these families and children.
